Mašina was awarded a special plaque by the Independent Journalists’ Association of Serbia (NUNS) “for an innovative approach to investigative journalism and coverage of the topic of workers’ rights in Serbia”, as it was said at the ceremony. The plaque was also awarded to the editorial board of Južne vesti, while the awards for investigative journalism were given to colleagues: Adam Santovac, Aleksandar Đorđević, Jelena Veljković and Vuk Cvijić.
As president of the jury and editor-in-chief of the weekly Vreme, Filip Švarm, explained, the editorial staff of Mašina received a “special plaque awarded for excellence in investigative journalism and an innovative approach to investigative journalism and coverage of workers’ rights”.
I thank you on behalf of the entire editorial staff of Mašina and hope that we will in the future continue to meet the criteria for which you awarded us this recognition, the co-editor of Mašina, Marko Miletić, stated at the ceremony.
Vuk Cvijić won the first prize in the print media category for a series of articles about the Krušik weapons factory published in the weekly NIN. The text “The Industry of Leaving”, which we translated to English and published on our portal, was shortlisted in the same category.
Jelena Veljković and Aleksandar Đorđević from BIRN were awarded in the online media category for a series of articles “Father of the Minister of Police – a privileged arms dealer”, which cover the corruption in the very top of Serbia’s administration.
Adam Santovac got an award in the electronic media category for the documentary Mega Graduate produced by N1TV, about machinations at Megatrend University.
Filip Švarm, President of the jury and editor-in-chief of the weekly Vreme, Željko Bodrožić, President of NUNS, and Anthony Godfrey, US Ambassador, also addressed the audience.
The prestigious award for investigative journalism is being awarded for the fifteenth time, and as of this year, the award is named after Dejan Anastasijević, a journalist who passed away last year. NUNS is organizing the award ceremony with the support of the US Embassy in Serbia.
